Your code. Your recovery.
Keep Git history outside GitHub, with a secondary copy stored separately. Download a snapshot and recover with standard Git tools.
Recovery is manual: download the bundle, verify it, and follow the recovery instructions before pushing to a remote.
You control access
Sign-in comes first. You then install the GitHub App and choose which repositories it can access. RepoVault does not store GitHub installation tokens.
What RepoVault protects today
Backups include Git history, basic repository metadata, a manifest, and checksums. RepoVault does not yet archive issues, pull requests, releases, or wiki content.

Frequently asked questions
What is RepoVault?
RepoVault is a backup service for GitHub repositories. It automatically saves separate copies of your Git history outside GitHub, ready to download when you need them.
Why should I back up my GitHub repositories?
Accidental changes, deleted branches, or a deleted repository can put your work at risk. A separate backup gives you an earlier copy to recover from.
Why choose RepoVault?
RepoVault manages daily backups for you and keeps a second copy in separate storage. You can check backup status in one dashboard and download your copies in a standard Git format.
What does RepoVault back up?
Backups include your Git history: commits, branches, and tags. Issues, pull requests, releases, and wiki pages are not included.
Can I back up private repositories?
Yes. When you install the RepoVault GitHub App, you choose which repositories it can access. You then enable backups for the repositories you want to protect.
Where will my data be stored?
Your backups are stored outside GitHub. RepoVault saves the primary backup in Supabase Storage, then copies it to DigitalOcean Spaces in the background. You can check the status of both copies in your dashboard.
How often are backups created?
Automatic backups run daily at your chosen time, in UTC. You can also start a backup manually. If nothing has changed, RepoVault skips creating a duplicate copy.
How do I recover my repository?
Download a backup as a Git bundle file and use standard Git tools to recover it. Recovery is manual: RepoVault does not automatically upload your code back to GitHub.
How many backups can I keep?
You choose how many backups to keep per repository, within your plan’s limit. As new backups are saved, the oldest copies beyond that number are automatically deleted.
How much does RepoVault cost?
You can start with the Free plan: up to 3 repositories, 150 MB of storage, and 7 backups per repository. Paid plans offer higher limits. See the pricing section for current prices.
Is there a limit on repository size?
Each backup file can be up to 150 MB, on any plan. Your plan also limits the total storage used by saved backups.
