# RepoVault > RepoVault is a backup service for GitHub repositories. It saves independent copies of Git history outside GitHub, keeps snapshot history, and provides downloadable Git bundles for manual recovery. RepoVault is for developers and repository owners who want a separate copy of their source code without maintaining backup scripts and storage integrations themselves. The service is available at https://repovault.net/ and uses a personal vault for each user. Current capabilities: - Connect public or private repositories through the RepoVault GitHub App. Sign in with GitHub and choose which repositories the app can access and which have backups enabled. - Run automatic daily backups at a configurable time in UTC, or start a backup manually. Unchanged repository state is deduplicated instead of creating another copy. - Preserve Git history, including commits, branches, and tags, in standard Git bundle files, with manifests and checksums. - Store primary backups in Supabase Storage and replicate them asynchronously to DigitalOcean Spaces. Backup and replication statuses are shown separately; a replication failure does not invalidate a successful primary backup. - View repositories, retained snapshots, backup progress, recent operations, and job logs in one dashboard. - Choose how many snapshots to retain per repository within plan limits. Older snapshots beyond the retention setting are pruned automatically. - Download snapshots through short-lived signed links and use standard Git tools for manual recovery. Restore verification jobs check that an artifact is readable, trying primary storage first and secondary storage as a fallback. - Start with the Free plan or use the Developer plan for higher repository, storage, and retention limits. Current pricing and limits are listed on the public website; secondary copies do not count toward retained primary storage usage. Problems RepoVault helps solve: - Accidental deletion or unwanted changes: retained snapshots provide earlier copies of Git history to recover from, provided a successful backup captured the needed state and is still retained. - Dependence on a single hosting service: existing backups are stored outside GitHub and remain available when GitHub App access changes or is disconnected, subject to retention and user deletion. - Manual backup maintenance: scheduled jobs, change detection, retention cleanup, and storage replication reduce recurring work for the repository owner. - Uncertainty about backup health: the dashboard exposes backup results, independent replication status, and job logs so users can investigate failures and download available copies. Current scope and limits: recovery is manual. RepoVault does not automatically recreate a repository or push code back to GitHub. GitHub issues, pull requests, releases, and wiki pages are not included in the backup; accompanying repository metadata is minimal. Each backup file is limited to 150 MB on all plans, with additional plan limits for total retained primary storage, enabled repositories, and snapshots per repository. Snapshot retention does not provide immutable or write-once storage. Multi-user organization management and failure notification delivery are not currently available. ## Product - [RepoVault overview and setup](https://repovault.net/): Product introduction, GitHub sign-in, and the steps to connect repositories and enable daily backups. - [Recovery and repository access](https://repovault.net/#recovery): GitHub App access and the downloadable Git bundle recovery workflow. - [Plans and pricing](https://repovault.net/#pricing): Current Free and Developer offers, billing intervals, and storage, repository, and retention limits. - [Frequently asked questions](https://repovault.net/#faq): Backup coverage, private repositories, storage locations, scheduling, recovery, retention, and size limits. ## Optional - [Contact](https://repovault.net/contact): Public contact form and support email for product or account questions. - [Privacy policy](https://repovault.net/privacy): How the service handles personal and repository-related data. - [Terms of service](https://repovault.net/terms): Service scope, user responsibilities, and legal terms.
